Peers, School, and Society Influences
|
The video to the left shows us cyber bullying and how peers influence decision making. In the video Kate is peer pressured into saying horrible things about Randy. Her peers keep telling her that she needs to be meaner to him. She first did not want to do it but then she gives in because she wants to go to a party. This is something that happens in several schools. Cyber Bullying is just one way of bullying that teachers and admin. have to take into account.

Leyla Barvo-Willey speaks about encouraging positive peer pressure using trust circles. She implemented this in a classroom then the entire school took part of this system. Having these trust groups bring different people together and make students realize that they are all equal.
Guiding positive peer pressure can be as easy as having this group of people encouraging each other and helping them grow as a group and individuals. You as a teacher or an admin should promote positive influence instead of always having students face things alone. Showing students that they are not the only ones in the class having an issue makes them feel relieved. |

The video to the left shows us how fast information can travel now. Bullying can happen and does happen outside of school. Bullying is no longer tied to face-to-face contact it is now in the form of cyber. Teachers, Administrators, and Parents all have to consider the great deals of technology when it comes to bullying. Since bullying has progressed through the years into something we cannot imagine, we have to try and get children away form social media. Show them that social media means nothing.

We as teachers and administrators must find ways for students to understand how to say no to peer pressure. We must demonstrate to students the different affects a student can encounter with peer pressure.
The video to the right Lisa Freeman demonstrates to students about peer pressure saying it is like the blind leading the blind. She has two volunteers make a hot dog. One person has to have his hands behind his back and the other is blind folded. Together they do not make a hot dog. Doing what you want to do and only what you want to do is best for everyone involved because you are on your own terms not someone else's. |
